Broken hydrometer
Submitted by: Anonymous on January 23rd, 2006
If you're a klutz like me and you break your hydrometer on brew day and the nearest homebrew shop is at least an hour away, go to the nearest tropical fish store and buy one of theirs. They work the same, except not as much range and no Balling or potential alcohol scales. They work in a pinch.

| If you have a gram scale you can measure SG taking the weight of a set volume of wort and dividing that by the weight of the same volume of water (at the same temperature). Don't even need to go to the fish store! | |

Simpler solution. Keep a second hydrometer on hand. This usually help prevent the first one from breaking in the first place! :) |
