To obtain an effective sanitizer, no more than 2 capfuls, (1/2 oz.), need be added to 5 gallons of water. This creates a solution at 12.5 ppm and at that strength, is an effective sanitizer with a contact time of 60 seconds.

It's really silly to use anything else. I got a big 33oz bottle of it from kennywoodbrew.com for under 9 bucks and it'll probably last me all year. |

First of all thanks for the excellent article and non-scientific test at the web address you gave, Robert. Great general info and answers some concerns that I've had. Iodophor is also handy to use as a starch to sugar conversion test if you are an all grain brewer. The instructions for this process are at http://www.howtobrew.com/section3/chapter14-5.html and in the printed version of the same book, "How To Brew" by John Palmer on page 177. (BTW, How To Brew is among the best reference books I have on the shelf. I have many pages marked with tabs and highlighter. Every home brewer should have a copy.) |
