Mini Interview |
|
| My first homebrew... | I got a bunch of brewing supplies from a store going out of business REAL CHEAP. It included a couple of pale ale kits that shall go unnamed. The store owner gave me instructions of how to prepare my first batch including putting in a ton of sugar for that extra kick. I was so proud of this vile, cidery stuff that I drank most of it myself. (my friends took a sip and wouldn't touch it) Luckily, I met a person who gave me some GOOD advice and by my next brew, I was steeping some grains and adding my own hops to the kit. The beer turned out great and I was hooked. By my third batch I wanted to try all-grain and have never looked back. |
| Homebrewing Story... | The first year or so I spent brewing, I did so with smaller batches because my brewpot (the one I got REAL CHEAP) was only a 5 gallon pot. I had just finished brewing and cooling about 3 1/2 gallons of what would have been an awesome honey porter. My carboy was fitted with a clean and sanitized funnel and positioned on the kitchen floor. I lifted the lid off the pot and when I hoisted it up to pour, one of the handles broke free. Pot and contents came crashing down on top of the carboy sending shards of broken glass in a sticky river of wort. My wife threatened me with divorce. |

| Why I homebrew... | Cooking and baking have always been a passion. Brewing seemed like a natural extension. |
| Brewing Accomplishments | My best friend asked me to supply 20 gallons of homebrew for his wedding. I made 10 gallons of a "pre-prohibition" lager, 5 gallons of oatmeal stout and 5 gallons of an English special bitter. Never mind that I was also best man, the real honor in this was he was one of my friends who had spit out my very first batch of homebrew and declared it undrinkable 6 years earlier. |
