Mini Interview
My first homebrew... A Stout Extract kid from Midwest Brewing made in an old enamel camping pot more than a year ago. My sister bought me my brewing equipment for christmas and I flipped out. So excited. The Porter came out amazing.
Homebrewing Story... I drive about 40 mins to my local homebrew shop and get completly lost in the amazement of it. After pouring over many recipes, I picked out several, had the grains crushed and paid for the whole order. A month or so later, I decide to brew... and only find a bag labeled "munich". I think it must be some brew I named and so brewed it, added some hops I thought were supposed to go with it. Weeks later I go back to LBHS and the cashier says "how did that brew come out?" I tell him I'm confused, that I brewed with a bag labelled "munich" but it didn't taste too good. He leaves and comes back with my 5 bags of crushed grain recipes and puts them down. "We thought you got robbed or mugged or something. You paid for all this stuff and left. When you didn't come back for it, we put it in the fridge. You should take it with you." I come to realize I was so lost in the idea of brewing that I just zombie-walked back to my house and forgot I'd left $70 dollars worth of homebrew sitting in my LBHS.. I realize the "munich" bag was really that- just a bag of base Munich malt that I'd brewed. Talked about 'winging it'- no wonder I felt confused when I dumbfoundedly tried to find the "munich" recipe on my computer.

Why I homebrew... Many hobbies converge here- cooking, figuring things out/learning, making things, sharing with others, meeting other people. The Apostle Paul talks about how we should "use our liberty but do not sin". I think brewing beer is a good example of the freedom I have in Christ to enjoy life.
Brewing Accomplishments Celebrating my good friend's bachelor party by handing out 40's of my porter- and it was a hit! Even the girls liked it. Also, brewing an Irish Red with some friends of mine (their first) for my own bachelor party. It was a hit!
