| Favorite beer style to brew | all... really... but I am a hophead. |
Mini Interview |
|
| My first homebrew... | Some kit IPA from a LHBS - a friend who brews said, "you have to start brewing your own!" and since we're both science guys... I figured what the heck. Turned out drinkable and I was hooked. Went to partial mash on the next batch, then kegging, and now all grain. |
| Homebrewing Story... | I've been lucky - no bottle bombs, no catastrophes. Have had to dump two batches - one a marionberry ale that was just terrible, the second a spiced christmas ale with cinnamon and nutmeg I'd had that was good. Mine - down the drain - all 50 some odd bottles. I still have trouble with nutmeg - and it's been at least 6 years. Wife got sick of the bottles and said - why don't you keg? Who am I to argue? I hate cleaning bottles anyway! |
| 3 favorite beers | Imperial IPA (or any really hoppy beer) Porter - I have about three different ones I brew Honey Basil Ale |
| Why I homebrew... | I enjoy it, I like what I make better than about 99% of the beer I can buy in the store. I like to have what I want on tap at all times (5 kegs here). I like the chemistry behind it - science is my real job - brewing is just fun. |
| Brewing Accomplishments | Self satisfaction and accolades from family and friends. Have never submitted a beer - despite suggestions from friends - maybe this year. My son, 6, helps with just about every batch. It's funny to walk through the store or go to friends who drink colored water beer and hear him say, "He's drinking bad beer dad" or "dad, all they have is bad beer!" He never drinks any - but appreciates the value of a good hoppy ale! :) |
