I did a couple starters yesterday as well.... for a quick reference.... 1lb of DME in 1 gallon of water = a SG of 1.040-1.043 So if your using a half gallon growler to bump up your starters, it breaks down to 4 oz in 32 oz of water (or 1 quart ) = 1.040 SG 2 oz in 16 oz of water ( or 1 pint ) = 1.040 SG Cheers! From an interview with Jamil Z. when asked about late addition IBUs: (AHA homebrewer of the year) "You don't need to start hopping at 60 min+. Do the calculations to calculate to the correct IBU's and move the hopping until later in the boil (way later, like 10 min and 1 min). This gives you huge flavor and aroma with the appropriate level of bitterness. This works really well for beers where you want a big aroma and flavor. I wouldn't use it for styles where hop aroma and flavor are not wanted." |
