Well, this is my first entry, so bear with me!. Just tasting my 1st attempt at an esb. Tastes pretty good, malty, but with a lot of hop character ( FWH, and hops every 15 til the end ), maybe not as much as some of you hopheads, but a lot for me!!. Used 3oz dark crystal, and almost a pound of munich, and it think the munich could be toned down a little, it tastes great, but in an ESB its probably too much. I've been sort of experimenting with using a small amount of dark crystal instead of a lot of medium crystal in my bitters lately, and im finding that it gives a better "Caramel" aroma and taste in my opinion, although its only early days. Anyway, i will be entering this beer, along with an ordinary bitter, and a german pils in the NSW state champs ( Im an aussie, NSW stands for New South Wales ), which our local brewclub has been lucky enough to host at a local micro ( the brewer is part of the club ), and im keen to see how i go, as i am starting to make better beers, and am a lot more familiar with ingredients, techniques etc. Still an intermediate brewer, but getting there. Oh, i've also got my 1st porter in primary right now, and i made up a pound of brown malt, which makes up 10% of the grist, so i will see how it comes out.
Take it easy! |
