| Denny, my crush was about the same. My mash was a lot thicker than normal, 1.15 qts/lb compared to 1.6 qts/lb. I also spent more time mashing in than usual because of the extra grain, my normal batch is 8 to 10 lbs and this was almost 13 lbs. I may be able to figure it out with some experimentation. | |

Brewed for the first time in a couple weeks yesterday and dang if I didn't get a stuck sparge. Some how grain got inside my manifold and then when and clogged up the valve. After every thing got dumped out and then dumped back in I went like a charm. I'm a bit worried about the amount a oxigination that must have happened in the during this whole mess but I'll just have to wait and find out. Anywho here is the recipe Surly Red Head Ale 9 lb british two row 1 lb Crystal 60 luv 1/2 lb Victory Malt 1/3 lb Weat malt 1/2 lb Carapils 3/4 oz EKG 5.2%aa (FWH) 1 oz Centenial 9.4aa(Bittering) white labs Irish Ale OG 1.055 |

I just built my self a counter flow wort chiller and it worked great. However if I had to do it again I probably wouldn't try to do it during the boil. Getting the thing put together, tested and sanitized in under an hour was beyond me. Very well boiled wort. Now I just have to figure out what I’m going to do with the 20 ft of soft copper tubing I have left over Used it on a summer ale that I'm trying to rebrew, this time all grain. Last time I did this beer from DME with a little crystal malt it. It went very fast. Wind Tunnel Blond 8 lb. pale two row 1 lb. crystal (40 luv) 1 oz perle pellets 7.6 aa (bittering) 1/2 oz cascade pellets 6.3 aa (FWH) 3-4 oz pealed and grated ginger (15 min) Wyeast 1056 OG 1.052 (I was aiming for 1.045 but I'm not going to complain about it.)
