I just got home from the long trip to my parents house and I cracked open a Yuengling Lager, and it is still very good, but it tasted different since I have been drinking my homebrew. I have noticed that when pouring into a glass that has been in the freezer (to frost it which is something that I like to do) that my homebrew has much bigger and longer lasting head. The Yuengling Lager also has a thnner mouthfeel it seems to me now since I have been drinking my homenbrew.
I have bought this Yuengling Lager, a Yuengling Porter, which I didn't try yet. a Samuel Adams Cream stout that I did try already and it was my first stout and It had a chocolaty taste, and I really didn't like it all, maybe I need to get used to it, I am not sure if I will ever like stouts, or maybe I need to try a bunch of different types/brands and try a homebrewed stout yet though before I decide if I like them or not. I will see if I like the Yuengling Porter when I try it sometime this week.
I also have a Yuengling Black and Tan and Blue Moon Belgian White that I will try. I wanted to get a few different types of brew to try different types of beer. I am thinking this will help me see what kinds of homebrew I want to make. |

Just cracked open a bottle of my wheat beer, and OMG is it GOOD GOOD!! I misplaced the recipe, but I pretty much remember how I did it. It has a beautiful head and gread head retention!! I got the idea from the HOP CANDY recipe of using the hops at only a 30 minute boil, and I did not use the Chinook hops, the grain bill is totally different too. It is a very light colored wheat beer with a slight hop bitterness, and a light maltiness. In my opinion it is my version of a light modern day commercial brewery beer but MUCH tastier! Yum! OMG Making beer is FUN FUN FUN! |

TOday I bottled my 1 gallon of - I guess it is my wheat beer - that I had fermenting with 1 banana. I tasted it when bottling and it didn't have any banana taste but it was very smooth tasting compared to the brew It origionally came from.
Tommorrow, on my birthday, I will attempt to brew my Yuengling lager clone recipe that I got from Lid. I have 2 cases of beer on hand right now and I want MORE!! Attemp to brew because I have some friend coming over tonight and I am not sure what time I will get to sleep and if I feel like brewing, which I probably will.
My next brews that I want to make are: a brew that is 100% all base malt, most likely Fawcett Maris Otter, I want to try some actual recipes instead of what I have been doing so far is adding a pound of this and a pound of that and seeing how the brew turns out...I want to probably try a belgian, I have never tried a dark beer so I will eventually try to make a porter or something similar.

Today I decided to not chance that I might of used too much priming sugar and I re-capped my 2 cases of brew. Being that they are my only cases of homebrew on hand I dont want to lose any beer. It has only been about 2 days since I first bottled the batches so I think they should be some carbonatin still in the bottles after a couple weeks, I'm hoping the beer won't be 'flat' since I decided to re-cap. I guess I will find out. |

12-9-05 = Bottles my 4th and 5th batches last night about 11:00 pm. I tasted both batches when I bottled and they tasted very good! Best batches so far that I've made. Woo Hoo I am getting better! Just hope it tastes good in the bottles after some aging and etc. My next batch I will attempt will be a Yuengling Lager Clone, then I want to brew an 100% all base malt recipe. I will be brewing the Yuengling lager clone recipe soon, and I will order more grain for my new few batches. I need to build a wort chiller first actually before my next batch, so that is my next goal to get done. I just used Iodophor for this latest bottling session, and it is MUCH better than the tediouis task of using bleach. Plus i read in the BYO magazine that using bleach can add chlorine to a brew if not rinsed properly which can lead to phenols, so I don't want to risk that at all. I wish I would of started my journal on my first batch, but I guess better late than never |
