I made my 1st starter tonight. I used about 2 cups xtra light DME and about 20 oz of water. If i had a scale i would have done a better job. A bit much DME? Im trying a starter in a 22oz bottle with a stopper and an airlock with wyeast 3724 belgian saison. I finally got my fish tank heater and will experiment this week with a fermenter full of B.E.S.T. Brand idoaphore solution. I am going to put the fermenter inside of a large canning pot and try to regulate the temp for a few days and try to maintain 78 deg F in the water jacket as my LHBS suggested. This is also my 1st time using idoaphore for sanitizing. I hope that it might help my carbination problem as i have only used CL2 (Chlorine)in the past and my carbination sucks even with 6 oz. of coen sugar. As David Kravitz suggested I can twists my caps which may also be the problem. In the past I have used oxygen barrier caps after soaking the in CL2. This may be the problem also. Maybe im ruining them. I rinse everyting thoroughly but maybe not enough.Any way every batch seems like its always an experiment anyway and making a starter for my saison just seems to be a step in the right direction according to the forum and Ray Daniels "desiging great beers" any advice would be greatly appreaciated..Eric
