Well It's My Nephews Birthday so thought I'd brew something up for the occassion. 8 pounds Golden Promise Pale Malt 4 ounces Chocolate Malt 2 ounces Black Malt 1 ounce Roast Barley 3 ounces Crystal Malt 2 ounces Flaked Barley 1 pack Nottingham Yeast 3.5 gallons (uk) at 72C strike heat 3 hour mash sparged with 2 gallons at 72C 1 ounce Mount Hood 3.2% alpha 60 minute boil .75 ounce Challenger 8% aplha 60 minute boil .5 ounce Mount Hood 3.2% alpha 15 minutes before end of 60 minute boil .5 ounce Mount Hood 3.2% alpha once heat removed Hops sparged with 4 pints of cool water approx 18C The wort prior to boiling was so lush it was drinkable just as a health drink. I haven't tasted it after boiling with the hops but calculations say it should be somewhere in the range of 2.4 alpha acid units per gallon which I hope isn't a tad too bitter. Look forward to tasting some from a corny keg in about 2-3 weeks time. Will be naturally carbonated by kegging at around 1.015-1.018 Until then I'll busy Myself with the latest episodes of LOST.
