Good on ya, Fred and Heidi! Hope you enjoy the hobby as much as we all do! One heads up I'll give ya...that harsh, solvent like taste could easily have been caused by fermenting at too high a temperature. That's one area that new brewers tend to overlook. Try to do everything you can to keep the temp of your fermenter under 70F. 65-68 is even better for cleaner tasting beer. And if you haven't found it already, look at www.howtobrew.com....maybe even buy the book. It's about the most up to date, accurate, easy to follow info you'll find.
