Simcoe Citra Amarillo...............GOOD LUCK ON THOSE!!!!!!
For me, I have cascade but I want to add EKG(I know they will be calld goldings) and if they ever come back Mt Rainer hops(Never to be produced again)and since thats out now, Cluster is next up, it goes very well with cascade and is interesting with ekg.

IMO, magnum is always a good hop to have around and they grow like monsters. But really it comes down to what do YOU like? I wouldn't base off what the rest of us think... this is your beer, grow what you like and will use.

Agreed that Cascade and Centenial are a must, but I have recently become quite a fan of Ahtanum. I now use them every chance I get for flavor and aroma. Eric has a pretty good point, what styles do you like?

EKG and Fuggles for the bitters, browns and stouts. Tettnanger and Saaz for the Belgians and weizens. But those are what I like.

This is in regards to buying hop plants- not hops.
Can you even get Citra? (someone asked me about it yesterday). I wasn't sure but assumed it was one of those proprietary types.

Isn't Magnum primarily a bittering hop? What would be the point of growing bittering hops if you don't know the AA%?

You can have the hops tested by hop union, but I agree that's more work than its worth.

Hops are hops are hops, no one says you can not use a "bittering hop" for a flavor or aroma hop. If that were the case all the high alpha stuff like Simcoe and Citra would be just bittering. I have found several so called Bittering hops to be quite flavorful.

Stranded on desert island choice would be Columbus. Extremely versatile. (Also cheap)
