my dog ate one of my BYO magazines and i need a recipe out of it. it is the breakfast beer issue i think from May. if someone could post the recipe for the Wolaver's Alta Gracia Coffee Porter (all grain or extract with grains version) i would really appreciate it. i brewed it once and turned out great and all my notes were tucked inside of the mag when dog ate it. thanks

Sorry to hear that you had to put down your dog. May he/she RIP.

Funny, I just had that beer last week. It was good. I like Kona's better. Hell, I liked BBC's better.

Find a good porter recipe, add espresso or strong coffee in late primary - bam! you have a coffee porter

Wolavers Alta Gracia

11.25# 2-Row
1# 3 Oz C-60
12 Oz Chocolate Malt 380L
9 Oz white wheat malt
5.3 Oz black malt 500L
7.4 AAU Nugget @ 60 min ( .67 Oz @ 11% alpha )
2.6 Oz freshly roasted coffee (coarsely ground)
1/2 vanilla bean
WLP001 / 1056 / US05

Mash @ 154 F
Boil 60 min
Ferment @ 68 F

Using a small amount of the fermenting beer, near end of fermentation make an overnight cold soak from the coffee. Add coffee liquid extract grounds and all to the fermenter along with the vanilla bean (slit scraped and chopped).

Extract w/ grains option
Repalce pale malt with 6.8# light LME and 1.2# DME.
Steep grains in 1 Gal water @ 154 F for 45 min
Add water to make 3 Gal and add roughly half malt extract
Boil for 60 min adding hops as scheduled
Cool
Transfer and top up to 5 Gal in fermenter
Aerate
Pitch Yeast

Keep in mind they use like 65% Eff. Page 2 usually has their recipe standardization numbers.

Enjoy... I might add the coffee to my next porter... I use 3 V beans in it already...
