My next project in homebrewing is to acquire a way to ferment at a set temp. What would you recommend? Fridge, freezer, styrofoam enclosed box? I know i'm going to need a temp controller, and I already have a kegerator so dispensing is not an issue. Cheers

A lot depends on apace available and required. I have a 5.5cf chest freezer now for my fermentation chamber because it fits. I'd rather have on the order of a 9cf do I could ferment two batches at a time. I like chest freezers but there are cheaper options.

If you can live without using your kegerator as a beer server for a couple of weeks, you could always use that. A normal sized one will hold one carboy. All you'd need is a better temperature controller.

I would say: find a cheap standard kitchen fridge on CList or something. It'll be fine for fermenting and lagering and you can use the freezer space for hop storage.
I don't think chest freezers appreciate the higher fermentation temps. Plus you have to lift your fermenter in and out of them. Buckets are okay, but carboys and conicals could be a pain to move. And generally, the fridge will be cheaper, especially if you can find a good used one.

My plan for this winter is to use a large cooler I have already. Place carboys/buckets in, fill with water and control temps with an old aquarium heater.

I'm thinking about putting a small a/c window unit in my basement closet and setting it to 60F to keep the temperature low. I figure the exhaust will help warm up the rest of the basement at the same time.
