A month or two ago, somebody posted that American Scientific Surplus had a $14 Honeywell temp controller for sale, part #T6031A1052. Well, just wanted to say thanks to whoever posted this, because I hooked it up last night, and so far, it appears to be working. Imagine that, a $14 controller, now that is sweet. Just for those not familiar, this one is not like the Johnson controls one that you just plug everything into, this guy does have to be hard wired in, but I was able to figure it out, and it was a success I believe (haven't had a chance to test it's accuracy, but so far, we're in the right ballpark). I ended up bypassing the OEM thermostat, which wasn't working anyway, and wired the controller to the two leads that went to the old thermostat. Luckily, my fridge had a very basic wiring diagram on the back, and I was able to figure out which was the hot, and which was the neutral wire.
So thanks to whomever.

Someone else must agree with you, as they're now out of stock.

Hehe, yeah, it would appear so. I imagine that these controllers are out there for decent prices if you look around. Maybe not that good of a price, but still less than a johnson. The T6031 part of the number is the basic controller itself, the rest of it, I believe, has to do with how long of a capillary probe it has. In its guts, it works the same way the johnson controller does, it has just been wired differently.

Wow, I guess I did get a good deal. I figured that even if it didn't work, it was worth the money to at least try it. As an added bonus, it did work. And I am by no means an electrical whiz. I think I actually got lucky.

Yeah, me too, at that price, it would be worth having another on hand.

I looked online for the price googled it and hit the tab for shopping, over 300 at some sites haha, but yea 60 - 70 at a lot of them, nothing nearly as low as 14. I'll have to get one when their back in since I was planning on lagering in an old fridge I have and why not for $14.

Behold the power of economics.
That is a helluva price.
