Starting to put together a recipe for a Brown Ale and was curious what some others have used with this style.

Whats the grain bill look like? American or British? To style?

I've used and like, wlp002, 005, 013, wy1968, wy1768, wy1318, and us05. Any basic English yeast like 002 or 005 will make a good brown ale, or us05 is a great all around amer. yeast.

Yeah, depends what you want. I have a MC (Multi-Cultural) brown recipe that's been made with about a dozen different yeast including american, english, belgian, lambic, german, etc...

If you're doing an american, S05 is fine and easy.

Was thinking going British style with it... Heres the basic recipe I came up with with some tweaking still to do

6# Light DME
1# Dark Brown Sugar
1/2# British Crystal 65L
1/4# British Chocolate

.75oz East Kent Goldings @ 60
.50oz East Kent Goldings @ 20
.50oz East Kent Goldings @ 5

1028. S04 if you want something a little sweeter/malty. 1099 perhaps.

I was thinking S-04 also since as you mentioned it will leave a little more sweetness and maltiness. Thinking Im going to make this a spiced Brown Ale... just havent decided which spice(s) and/or how much.
