I am looking for a good fermentation chamber for Sanke's that have been converted to fermenters. Anyone have any suggestions? I need specifics, especially if you recommend a Upright/Chest Freezer. This should include a model number, the number of Sanke's that will fit in it, and the retail price. Thanks for any assistance!

Mods, can you delete one of these double-posts. It was an accident.

Red my recommendation is this Measure your sanke then go to lowes with a tape measure and measure them all till you find the one that fits what you need..

done.

Definitely want an upright. Unless you're superman and can life it out of a chest freezer. (chain hoist?!)
But yeah, I'd just measure and then head to the local store to see what fits. Especially with the hump.

I was going to get one for the conical and I'm glad I measured and went. The model i thought would fit definitely didn't.

If you're handy, there's always plywood and foam board. You could build out a fridge. Or check craigslist for a refrigerator. You just need to build a shelf over the hump, but it worked fine for me.

I built a keg fridge in a house a few years back. I built a bar counter out of wood frame construction and insulated it with thick styrofoam. I bought a used restaurant line fridge door, a condenser/compressor unit, and an evaporator from a restaurant supply store. Once it was all together I had an HVAC guy charge the system. I'm pretty sure the whole setup cost me less than an fridge at Lowe's since I did the work myself.

An older 15 foot, top freezer, fridge will handle one Sanke. You have to remove the plastic shelves in the door and depending on the model, you may have to build a small wooden shelf at the bottom that matches the height of the hump. Yes, fridges have a hump too, you just don't see them because of the crispers. Those will also have to be removed.

Chest freezers are no good, IMO, for the same reasons Bryan mentioned. You'll never get the keg in and out of one without a chain hoist or a body builder neighbor.

Whatever it is will need to do two Sanke's side by side or stacked. I am thinking the best way may be to build one with foam insulation, 2x4, 1/2 plywood and a 6,000 BTU A/C unit. Already have a digital JC. I really wanted A fridge or freezer, but it seems like it would considerably more expensive.

I doubt that any residential fridge will hold 2 Sankes at one time, either side by side or stacked.

I found a 22 cu ft Frigidaire upright freezer for $200 today at a used appliance store. It is 72" x 32" x 30" exterior and 62" x 28" x 20" interior. I will fit two Sanke's stacked with room for Airlocks or Blow-offs. Thank god! Didn't want to spend a weekend building a fermentation chamber. I am a pretty big/strong guy, so lifting the 10g batches up to the shelf won't be all that hard.
