Thom, I've thinking about trying a barley wine. Have you made this recipe before? I'd be interested in the recipe if you feel good about it.

I've got a lb of willamette too. Can we see the recipe Thom?
Oh and what's so great about tomorrow? Just a bunch of idiots going and getting sloppy drunk in a weekday night. Plus I'm not Irish so it really doesn't affect me at all. I don't consider it any more of a happy day than any other...

Need to power through some beers so I can bottle this week. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Sam Adams variety pack, Stone IPA. A happy melting pot of left over beers from this weekend. How did that Corona get in there?

I have made this one in the past, this is the third time and I've tweaked it a bit. I have added sugar to it cause it was too sweet the past times I made it. It is still in the fermentor, I brewed it at the beginning of Jan. This time around I'm going to dry hop it the last week or so once I decide to bottle it, right now I'm just letting it bulk age. I'll transfer to a secondary vessel in about a month and see how it's coming along.
It is made as a Partigyle the first runnings the BW and the second and third just some type of amberish ale.
28 lbs 2-row
.5 Special B
.5 Crystal 120
.5 Crystal 60
I mashed at 1.25qts/gal dough in with 9.5 gallons at 170 for a mash temp of 145f, I added 3 gallons at the end of the mash to account for grain absorption. This time around I used 2 gallons of first runnings divided between the second and third runnings(once collected), hoping this would add a bit of body to the second and third beers. Sparged with about 9.5gal so all three beers ended up about 6.5 gallons pre-boil.
the BW got 4lbs dark brown sugar, the og ended up as 1.112
US-05
.75oz Columbus @90 min
.75oz Columbus @75
.75oz Columbus @60
2.0 oz Columbus @5
Dry hop with 2oz Cascade for 7-9 days
the second/third runnings each got 1lb of dark brown sugar.
Coopersfor 2nd runnings
second runnings got .5 columbus @60
1oz Willamette @25 and 10
the third runnings got .5 columbus @60
Nottingham
1oz willamette@20
1oz Mt Hood @10
That is it in a nut shell

Prairie Wheat kit came out good, started Feb, 1st popped the first one Sun. Feb. was a good month for beer. Waiting on a wheat that I added home caned pears to, bottled last Th. I'l give it another 2 weeks. Wheat is crystal clear at room temp. but gets a nice haze when cold, kinda like those blue labels on Coors Ha.

Damn guys, some good lineups here. Nice Robert and Darth. Looks good. I just kegged my belgian trippel, which is a little sweet but awesome otherwise. I also have a big belgian stout, some oak aged barlewine, some belgian dubbels, belgian pale ale, and some great divide "hoss" in the fridge. Lots of options too.

I still can't stomach brown ales too much. Not the traditional american and british examples anyway. The best version of an american brown ale I've had was suprisingly in nebraska, it was a really hoppy brown ale. I like dogfishead indian brown too, but that's not really traditional.

OK, so I just transfered My Cool Runnings BW to secondary. It has finished a bit lower than anticipated, OG 1.112, FG 1.012 I guess I used a bit too much Brown sugar. Maybe I'll cut it back to about 2 lbs and see what happens next time. The good news is that it has a good bitterness to it and it is very strong and not too much of an alcoholic taste to it. I noticed no solvent flavors I have had from other brewings at this time period. It was brewed at the end of Dec/Beginning of Jan, my notes are not clear. I plan on Dry hopping with about 2oz of Cascade the last week of secondary, The way it taste right now I assume that will be in about 2-3 months. then about 3 months in the bottle to give time for good carbonation. I got a buz from the sample flask, so I know I did it right, plus it was mighty tasty.
