I know this was a thread topic a few months back, but i just double-backed to their site and found this:

http://dudadiesel.com/choose_item.php?id=he30mb

looks like they have received enough feedback/inquiry to manufacture a chiller specific for homebrewers. Anyone get one of these yet?

Unless I misunderstand what you're saying.......There are already 2 very popular plate chillers for brewing. The Therminator for about $200, and the Shiron for about $100. I think maybe the Therminator chills a larger volume faster.. I have a Shiron, got it on sale for $85 shipped. It is by far the best thing I've bought for brewing so far. I get 6 gallons from boiling to 65* as it pumps into the fermenter..

Duda Diesel's chillers are a lot cheaper, I've looked at them before. I haven't heard from anyone that has used them yet though...

nice find!

this is a 30 plate similar to the Therminator for ~60 bucks cheaper. the previous thread showed some excitment about it, and it seems the company tweaked their product for more of a plug and play device. just wondering if anyone has bought one and their experience.

Ahhh.... a more efficient, cheaper plate chiller. Def a worthy investment.. I still love my Shiron though..plate chillers rule!

You're right, we get a lot of beer brewers asking for models specific to their application. I knew the medium 30 plate size worked very well for most since my friend brews his own beer, used one and was extremely impressed with the performance. We sold out of those units within a month. We have more coming in in March though.

We're open to any other fitting size combos anyone may have. The medium 30 plate has fittings everyone likes as that is more of a unit someone would use with simple 1/2" tubing. However, as you get bigger, I have been informed that female threads would be best to make it easiest to fit to the application. In that case, any of our exchangers will work, just requires some brass adapters.

As for the SS304 vs SS316L, many believe SS316L is better just because it's more expensive. I've looked at it from an engineering point of view, and SS316L is only slightly better at corrosion resistance, while suffering a 10% loss in heat transfer between the metals. Stainless steel is only really corroded quickly by chlorides, and in beer brewing there are much greater worries than corrosion if there's chlorides in your beer. With normal use, an SS304 and SS36L unit will have about the same life. We could make them with SS316L in the future if it were to be highly requested. The cost isn't too much more. Maybe $20 or so.
