So I really love Deschutes Inversion IPA. I sent an e-mail to them asking if they could be of some assistance in cloning the beer. They sent me back a list of ingredients w/o the quantities or time. So I was wondering if I could get some input from you guys.

OG: 1.070
FG: 1.017
IBU: 69
Yeast: English

Malt:
Pale Malt
English Pale
Munich
Crystal

Hops:
Millennium
Nugget
Centennial
Northern Brewer
Cascade

So the recipe I have come up with is this:
11.5 Pale Malt
1 Victory
1 Munich
.75 Crystal 120
.5 Sugar

.75oz Nugget @ 60
.5oz Nugget @ 30
1 Northern Brewer @ 20
1 Centennial @ 10
.5 Cascade @ 10
1 Centennial @ 1
1.5 Cascade @ 1.5
Cascade & Centennial for Dry Hops

What do you think? I've read that Millennium is similar/ related to Nugget.

Man, that's a fine beer. You're making me thirsty. I think Crystal 120 might be a bit dark for an IPA.

Inversion is fairly dark for an IPA. You might try splitting the caramel between crystal & carastan (see below).

"Inversion I.P.A.'s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors." 75 IBUs

I also like their seasonal 'Twilight Ale' & 'Jubelale'.

Um, if they told him 120 was in there, why would it be too dark?

Denny, nowhere does it say Crystal 120. It just says Crystal. Mark chose 120 for his stab at the recipe.

Thanks for the correction...I was looking at the wrong part of the post. Still, I don't think 120 is too dark, when used appropriately. Dunno whether it's right for this beer, though....I haven't had one in a year or so, so I don't really recall the flavor or color.

I believe Millennium hops are a cross between Nugget & Columbus.
