Any one grow there own hops. I planted two this year with a 10' lattice to grow up. An auto sprinkler system to keep them happy. My issue is they have out growen the lattice and they still are growing towards the sun. Should I clip the tops to keep them with in the area I set up ( I can't go over 10').

dude, check the "hows the hops" thread...

you need to support them horizontally away from the original support area. 12' is ideal as a minimum, but go for what you can. The bines will fill out on the horizontal support.

Definitely train them to grow sideways as far as they have room. Are they both the same type? If so, it won't hurt anything to have the bines intermingle. Even if they are different types, I can't imagine it will be worse then chopping them at this stage in their growth. I am in the same boat with having the bines top out, except I can and will be going higher once it stops raining up here in Maine. Going on about a month of almost straight of rain. It's amazing they are growing at all.
Good Luck!

my cascades are growing up a 16' structure and reach 3-5' beyond that. don't cut the tops, train sideways or let them flop--you'll get a much better yield.

I have a wall of hops and when they reach the top I let them grow for a bit and then pull them back down a few feet and let them start back up. By the end of the season the hop is 20-30' long but only 8 feet tall. It makes harvesting easy and fills in the wall.

So as stated above train them horizontally or just bring them back down and let them grow vertically again.

Whatever you do DON'T cut the tops.

Thanks for the info, I got a three day weekend and I'll give my plants some horizonal support to grow on. I'll also brew a IPA.

In the past I've trained mine sideways along the wire support I have, this year I got pragmatic and just let them go where they will once reaching the top. Some flopped and grabbed the wire, some flopped and grabbed back onto main string. One flopped and grabbed the butterfly bush next to it. They seem to be thriving just fine. Pragmatic is the way to go for me (and others I hear tell)

Pragmatic all the way! Mine are kinda a clump on both sides of the fence, spilling onto the ground. But it still looks like I'm gonna have a huge yield.
