For those with keg setups and external faucets, what are you using as a drip tray?

I'm not too keen on dropping $40 for a drip tray, so I'm looking for alternatives. Right now I'm thinking about a piece of plastic guttering.

I saw some interesting ones in the Northern Brewer catalog I was looking at the other day, they had a bunch of pics of customer's setups. One that stuck out was a pint glass suspended below each faucet by heavy gauge wire, bent into interesting shapes. Looked pretty cool and should be pretty easy to clean.

I saw the same one, BoonieBrew. Really cool looking so during a brew session a few weeks ago I grabbed a coat hanger and a pair of pliers and made a crude version of it. I suspended a chipped glass beneath it (a glass I would have otherwise thrown out) and it works great. I plan on getting a little thicker gauge wire and making a better pattern at some point, as well as making others for the remaining 5 taps. Really cool.

If you use a gutter or some other tray type thing, go to the suspended ceiling section at Lowes/HD and grab the 4 x 2 florescent light tile. It looks just like the drip tray stuff. You can use that as the screen material for the top to dress it up.

On the top of my kegerator I just use a bar towel or a rubber bar mat.

I use a mud try for my drip tray. Its the same thing they use when applying dry wall plaster. Its SS and works great.

I used to use red cups connected with a coat hanger to a magnet. I'd toss them when they get gross.

Now I have a shallow tray (looks like a mini wall papering tray) that sits on the floor and the fridge door clears it when opening.

Are you hanging cups 10" or so below the tap spigot, leaving enough room for a pint glass to fit between them? I'm having a hard time envisioning what you're doing.

Google: Mud Pan

Then use rare earth magnets to attach it to your fridge.

Daniel, thanks. I think that's the perfect solution.

i have a drip trey but it gets kinda nasty in there and its a bit of a pain to clean.

my other kegerator has a flat shelf where i can put a piece of paper towel down to catch the stray drip. i like the shelf as its quite solid so i don't worry about a full glass siting on it (or 4) and i shouldn't be dealing with much more then a few drips here and there anyway, so anything that collects those drips will just get nasty.

just happened to get lucky on craigslist. found a guy getting rid of his entire brew setup, including two chest freezers. i got the larger one and it came with 4 taps and a regulator for 120 bucks.. its basically just a fermenter most of the time, but during parties it allows for 4 beers on tap in the back yard.

but yeah.. keep an eye on craigslist, i can't stress it enough. check every day and you will be living the dream before you know it.
