Does a starter's krausen fall? I think I missed it while at work today... It's going pretty well but no real signs of it on the sides of my flask.

I've had starters not even make much of a krausen. Bump the temp up a bit and you'll see if it's done.

Many starters (depending on the yeast) wont have a foam cap on them. Also if you are like myself you dont boil your starter liquid for a full hour. That way there arent as many proteins clumped together for the yeast to grab and scrub to the surface. Also no hop oils and resins if you aren't hopping your starters, and in this day and age why would you. If it is still bubbling let it finish and do what you need with it.

A lot of my starters are done and gone before I even knew there were working. Warm and well oxygenated they can be done in 12 hours. You have to look at the big picture here. There is only a little sugar in a 1-2 liter starter compared with pitching a smack pack or vial.
