I used to make a Kombucha tea quite regularly, but I've gotten lazy in my reculturing of the mushroom.
It's pretty tasty, if you like tart teas.

I just tried some at my local brew shop. A girl there brewed up a batch and I thought it was pretty tasted. I saved some for my girlfriend to try and she said it was disgusting. It taste kind of like vinigery apple juice. I don't think I could drink a lot of it at once, but I don't think that is the point. If it is as healthy for you as they say it is I'll be drinking some more of it. I think it would be pretty cool to brew. Also, I don't think it is a mushroom, she told me it was just a special green tea patty.

I read up on it some not too long ago, sounds interesting and I think I'll have to try making some.

roseburgbrewer, IIRC "mushroom" is what some people call the bacterial mixture used to ferment the tea.

Its called the the "Mother". I've had a bottle in the fridge for 4 months. Haven't worked up the nerve to try it. Supposedly it has health benefits that people rave about, but the jury is still out. Some critics point out that large consumption is a risk for toxic effects, but the same an be said for beer.

Not sure how good it is or isn't but a good friend was taking it and making face creams and all sorts of weird stuff. As he and I car-pooled I was notified one day that he was having a seizure. Following that he had a series of about 9-11 more over the next few weeks. He stopped the "mother" thing and they subdued and finally stopped.

Perhaps he had the toxic syndrome mentioned above. I really don't know. He had me convencied to try it, but his condition turned me off of it...

I couldn't get if past my nose + I love Orval + smelly cheeses. I also read from a real medical publication that it disintegrates your liver...I'll pass.
