Going there for a conference in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions for beer places, food, and music, staying in uptown and will be restricted to the transit system.

Kaz,

Lot's of great places for food downtown. "Blue" is one of the best up-scale places.

For beer - take a taxi to the Mellow Mushroom, great pizza, local and national micros/craft, great belgium selection.

Have fun.

Argh, I was all set to go to Mellow Mushroom tonight - crazy site (www.mellowmushroom.com).
Googling them for their address - only two miles from the hotel - sweet!

But, called them first - good thing - no more Mellow Mushroom joints in Charlotte. Now what am I going to do?

Mike, there's a Flying Saucer in Charlotte plus a Rock Bottom. Fox & Hound too, I believe.

Probably other places but that's all I know. There's a decent beer/homebrew scene there so you should have luck.

Flying saucer is about it, cool place and good vibe. Rock Bottom (actually learned they are not like the other Rock Bottom, but owner by Gordon bierch chain) is a chain and yes they have beer but that's about it. If your stuck downtown, the Brixx Pizza place has the most on tap. I was excited to go to Charlotte since it was as big as Portland, but soon found out they ain't nothing like PDX, no music, little beer, and not much else. Good luck.

I lived in Charlotte back in 1995-1997. Beer scene was ok, nothing great.

http://www.rira.com/charlotte/home.html - Irish pub feel. Decent beer with lots of good Irish Whiskey

There was a place called Atlantic Beer and Ice Company that had decent beer back then.

Selwyn Avenue Pub
2801 Selwyn Ave
Charlotte, NC 28209-1705

Younger crowd, but they had lots of good beer on tap back then.

Kaz-based on my recent trip to PDX and a many year career of traveling-U will NOT find any beer scene like it in the USA
